What to do with a puppy afraid of brush?

My puppy is a type that does need to be brushed twice a week. But brushing him is always a long, complicated event because is afraid of the brush and will sometimes back/ run away from it or bark at it or try to attack it. He is 10 weeks old.

Puppies are incredibly cute at this age, but will also be scared by a shadow! I would try to have the brush around him as much as possible, especially when not in use, to get him used to it's presence. Encourage him to smell it, touch it and generally become comfortable with it. Put it down at his level so it doesn't seem so big. (But don't let him chew it!) When you do brush him, try putting some of his food in his bowl, or some treats, so he can associate being brushed with something pleasureable. If you have another person there, have them occasionally feed him treats or hold a teething bone for him to gnaw on. This will take his attention away from, ';What is this huge spiky thing being waved over my head?!'; Speak soothingly while you are brushing and every time he lets you brush him without complaint, praise him. Hopefully you will only need to do this for a couple of weeks until it is just part of his normal routine.What to do with a puppy afraid of brush?
I think it's because it's something he's not used to. My puppy used to be afraid of leashes, so I think the best thing for you to do is slowly let him get used to brushing. Show him the brush, let him sniff it, put it on the floor near him, let him approch it and get used to it. Let him see that the brush isnt a threat to him
Try cutting his hair short so its not so long and it won't take long to brush it. Try giving him a treat when your done and he'll start to like it. If all else fails try putting him on the leash and loop it on something and then pet, console, and brush him, then give him a treat.

Put on your doggie coat and boots too. Dogs get cold just like us and need to stay warm. Also put on those booties before going out! The ice can get stuk inbetween and on his toes and feet which can cause frost bite.
My pup used to be afraid of the brushing too...I used to put peanut butter in his kong and give it to him when I started to brush him...he was so distracted by the kong that he had no idea I was brushing him...he also started to associate treats and good things with the brush so I was able to brush him without the kong after awhile...

Anyway, it's a Pampered Chef basting brush, and my husband and I disagree about how to clean it, especially after using it with oils.How do you clean a boar bristle basting brush? Can it go in the dishwasher?
I'm a Pampered Chef consultant, but I don't have the boar bristle brush. I looked on our website. It just says to hand wash it. --Not too specific, eh?


I would soak it in HOT water first, then wash with water that's not too soapy.


I'll ask some other consultants what they do.


We have discontinued that product, though we still have the BBQ version. The new basting brush is made of silicone and is a cinch to clean.

There's no need to change it if you keep it spotless. I never put it back in the container dirty. Pour neat bleach on it (watch your clothes) and swish it around in the loo until it's clean. I also keep a bit of bleachy water in the container all the time, replacing it every few days, and I buy the cheapo one from Tesco if I need a new one, but they last for years if kept clean.
I don't like lavatory brushes. We never had one when I was a kid either. They harbour germs and look disgusting (you can see what they are used to remove-yeuch!) when you see them in other people's loos. I just wipe off any 'accidents' left on the toilet bowl with toilet roll then flush it away and use a toilet cleaner/bleach around the toilet pan. This is much more hygienic than a brush left 'hanging around'.
I don't know if this is a serious question. But incase it is...I don't use those toilet cleaning brushed. They are infested with nasty bacteria. Instead I use the toilet wand with the changable head. Then when I use one I just flush it down. I know it's bad for the environment and all, but I'd rather not have all that nasty bacteria in my bathroom.
you are better off not having one of these revolting things, put a rubber glove on plenty of bleach and scrub the loo with a scratchy pad, the sort you use for washing up. If the loo is done every day it stays beautiful and clean. I think these are just harbingers of germs yuk

First off, what brand of oil are you using, and does it meet the specs for chainsaws and the like? Many people make the mistake of using oil made for snowmobiles and outboard motors and such which will not be of sufficient quality for the much faster revving saw engine, and they do not have the proper additive package needed to reduce the smoke. Now to the carb question- assuming you have the proper oil and proper mix, the carb should only be adjusted if there are idling or high speed problems. Depending on your specific model saw, there should be 3 screws on the side of the carb- for low speed adjustment, high speed adjustment and idle speed. First start the saw and slowly turn the low speed screw in a little then out a little taking note of the speed while you do this-it may take a few times to get it right but when the engine speed is the fastest low speed, you have it right. Now reset the idle speed so it is just below clutch engagement speed-you may need to tweak low speed screw again. Then with throttle wide open, adjust the high speed screw in then out to achieve highest speed obtainable, and that's about it for that, but to me it sounds like possibly your mix might be a little rich, especially if your saw is 20 or more years old and you are using the newer oil made for leaner mixtures, as the older saws need a mix of 20 or 30 to 1, and the newer oils work best at 40 or 50 to 1, even in older saws.

Its so hard to pick it off and not leave a pit in the paint, or if we brush at it, we get an effect that we don't want. If I'm doing a portrait or more surrealistic painting I always keep a pair or small-tipped tweezers nearby. I have found out from years of painting that the tweezers work much better than any pallet knife or fingernail. If you lift it straight up and gently it shouldn't mar the effect you are creating very much.





Also, if you haven't used certain brushes for awhile or are using newly bought ones it always helps to 'dry brush' the brush on a neutral surface to make sure and remove any loose bristles. I have the long handled kabuki brush from Everyday Minerals and I need to wash it, but I need to know how long it takes to dry. I only have this one brush, so if it takes too long I won't be able to put on my makeup the next day.

In about 24 hours depending on size. Less for smaller brushes.


Next time you go shopping, get a few additional brushes, for that reason (plus they're just good to have). Try to get real hair brushes if you can though, they're much softer and apply makeup very well.

More than one coat might help. Try adding a TINY amount of water to soften the Modge Podge first...just to thin it out a bit, and apply the second coat in the opposite direction. I would also try a really soft bristle brush that is kind of wide and work quickly because the MP dries really fast!

Funny you should ask. I recently bought some Varsol since it was recommended as being better for brush cleaning than mineral spirits, which is often labelled as paint thinner. Varsol, however, says it contains mineral spirits. The difference seems to be that Varsol is purer, and I am finding that it cleans brushes better.





So, check the label on your brush cleaner. If it says that it contains mineral spirits, then that's what it is. If it doesn't say that, I wouldn't substitute it for mineral spirits as it may be based on some other chemical.Is there a difference between mineral spirits and brush cleaner?

I've worked in a dental office assisting and stuff, and a lot of my family members are dentists, so I've had to grow up learning about the right way to brush your teeth. This is actually an EXCELLENT question, as you will find many people simply don't know. Therefore, I'm very glad you asked!





The ';correct'; way is actually a combination. Think of your mouth as having four quadrants. You have the top left, bottom left, top right, and bottom right fourths of your mouth. Generally you should spend 30 seconds per quadrant, focusing on moving your brush in little circles on your teeth. You want to also ';brush'; your gums in this manner. You can also take your brush and go up and down across your teeth, but it can be harder to do this in the back.





Also, you need to focus on the fact that each tooth has five surfaces that need to be cleaned. Of course you hear the fact that you need to floss frequently, and this is imperative. Those are two of the five surfaces when you take the floss down beside both sides of your tooth. Of course, the other three are the front, chewing surface, and back. You need to adequately brush ALL of the surfaces. It is also important to remember to brush your tongue afterwards (before you rinse) so that you can remove the plaque and everything that has collected on your tongue. Always floss before you brush for the same reasons. This will loosen things up and then you will brush it away better.





Another thing to remember is that more time and harder brushing is not necessarily BETTER. You need to brush WELL and get everything clean, but it does not mean that you need a hard-bristled brush where you scrub your teeth for 30 minutes a day. The goal is to remove the plaque, not polish a tire! If you brush too hard and too long, you can actually wear down the enamel on your teeth (the hard, protective top surface), and cause more problems.





Mouthwash can be useful if you are prone to gingivitis or your dentist recommends it. You probably don't need to use it every single time you brush, however.





The ideal dental care comes from brushing after you eat each meal (or 2-3 times a day), flossing once a day, and seeing your dentist twice a year, or more, if necessary.

the best way my dentist told me is to do circles. 15 min. for brushing is a LOT and can actually damage your gums because of all the scraping you are doing. you should go at least 2 min. and no more than 4.
Brush them with gentle round moves, also massaging the gum, for about 5 minutes every time, at least 3 times a day.
You should brush your teeth for a total of 2 minutes. When you brush the top teeth angle the toothbrush upward and brush them in a circular motion massaging your gums at the same time, when you brush the bottom teeth angle the brush downward in a circular motion massaging your gums also. When you brush the part of the teeth that you chew on just brush them straight and the front teeth brush them with the toothbrush going outward. Don't forget to floss. If you brush your teeth for 15 min. you can actually wear your teeth out. That is not good.

Brushing your teeth is very important to have good oral care. I don't believe their is just one correct way to brush your teeth. That has been a great debate topic for years. What is important is that you brush the front and back of ALL teeth at least twice a day. Remember that the purpose of brushing is to remove the excess plaque buildup before it hardens on the teeth (once that happens, it can only be removed by dental instruments). Another important step to having good clean teeth is to floss and use mouth wash regularly. This will also help provide healthy gums.

what you do is, you get a long stick of liquorice, fold it in half and dip it in strawberry jam (marmalade will do if you have none, or even blueberry jam, but definitely not raspberry jam or lemon curd) Rub each tooth with this concoction separately, until they are coated. Then get some coke, slosh it in your mouth for 17 minutes and gargle. Spit out, repeat.





To give your teeth a classy polish, take a dab of honey and spread onto each tooth.

Ideally, use a soft toothbrush. Medium and Hard brushes are too hard on the gums and can cause recession. Brush in small, soft circles and be sure to brush the front, top, and back of all teeth, as well massage your gums with the brush (also using small, soft circles). When you are finished, be sure to brush your tongue. As far as time, you should spend one minute per quadrant (quadrants = bottom left/bottom right/top left/top right).
I think just hit the back front and sides of all your teeth and your fine, it doesn't matter if you go left to right or in circles or whatever.

Is there a good way to burn green brush?

We are clearing fence rows, well it is actually a old railroad right of way . and we want to burn all of it and try to get the land ready to plant come spring. we dug a huge hole, isnt working. we have heard about mounting a big bin drying fan mounted on the back of a tractor and injecting deisel into the fan and burning it that way but we havent tried it yet. I would discuss your ideas and options with the local extension service. Depending on where you live, live fires may be extremely dangerous. The use of fuels is very toxic to the environment.

Yep, you're exactly right. It adds volume and shape! Its called a blowout. Girls with not naturally straight hair do this to skip the steps of a flat iron. If they blow dry it with a round brush it gives the illusion that they flat ironed it, and then curled under/flipped out the ends.

Blow drying it with a round brush adds texture to hair, you can also LIGHTLY, when i say lighty i meant it, lol, you can roll the hair into it and make loose curls. i wouldnt advise it unless your hair is very silky and you used a moistizing conditioner. theres several things you can do with blow drying your hair with different brushes.

I'd rent a wood chipper/mulcher to cut down the leaves and branches and then reuse the chips as mulch for a nice-looking garden cover. That would cost anywhere from $30 to $50 a day.





Wood mulch is the most pleasing ground cover for a garden. You could also sell the mulch at a local farmer's market or advertise in the local newspaper.





Mulching may not be cheaper than burning, but it is more environmentally sound and simply makes good sense.
Spread leaves and small brush on your lawn. Set your mower blade a little lower than normal and have at it. It will mulch your grass and create a great soil if done often.





The large stuff: look around for a ';Stump Dump'; that takes only biodegradable stuff. Ask any building contractor where one is

If your area allows you to burn that would be very cost effective. Use Kerosene not gasoline and stay with it until the burning is done. Have your hose and a rake at hand. Chipping and spreading it on your flower beds could introduce weed seeds or disease to your flower beds.
You could get a cheap electric chipper for the brush and put the pellets back on your flower borders for weed control, the leaves can be got up with a plastic rake which is great exercise for the waist! hope this helps.
Try to break it down smaller, and put it in a corner, so that it can become a mulch pile in about a year.

please brush, your dentist will thank you, also brushing removes bacteria and other germs, which is good because the dentist will be cutting into you and you want to be as germ free as possible. Just make sure you spit it out. the whole 8 hours of not eating is to prevent you from throwing up and choking, which could lead to other problems.
i don';t see anything wrong with brushing ur teeth---its not like u are eating and swallowing stuff---brush---i'm sure the dentist would rather u not have a stinky mouth anyway--lol---altho most dentists i have been too have the worst breath u can imagine

I had oral surgery over the summer, and I also had my wisdom teeth removed (I think it was just my case, but I had BAD expierence there...sorry, don't mean to scare you...) but I remember them telling me not to eat 12 hours in advance and I THINK you can brush your teeth a little, but don't over do it on the tooth paste. I think...I can't remember.

Dont use people toothpaste as it is not to be swallowed and unless you have taught your dog to rinse and spit..... and for all the people who are advocating the pet store toothpaste, you need to look up the ingredients! If I woouldn't put it in my mouth, it is not going in my dogs mouth! Too solve this dilemma, I thought of using BBQ sauce! My dog loves to have her teeth brushed and it wont hurt her, yay. And as for the tooth brush, the ones you buy at the pet store or vet are designed to fit better in your dogs mouth than a human tooth brush. Their lips tend to get in the way if your toothbrush is to big. Good luck and happy brushing :)


EDIT: I also use tweezers to scrape off the plaque that won't brush off. YOu could try this assuming your dogs teeth are not too dirty. This is the stuff that smells and it hardens onto the teeth and doesn't come off unless it is scraped by something like a bone, chew toy or you. Just make sure you don't scrape the gum and don't force your animal to stay put for you, if he can only handle one tooth at a time, then by all means do one tooth a day until he will sit and relax for you! This works great for me, I just took my 5 years olc cats to the vet and she said they had beautiful teeth. You absolutely shouldn't use a people toothbrush or people toothpaste on your puppy for the following reasons:

What is the name of this desert tree/brush used for holiday decorations?

My mother in law has this tree/desert brush looking item that she says she got when she lived in California and she thinks it came from a desert. It is really smooth and a pale brown, almost like a river birch without the bark. It also looks like a weathered tree from the river or ocean. It is mounted to a platform that allows it to stand up and she decorates it for different holidays.
