How long can you use a foundation brush?

I recently changed from comspetic sponges to the foundation brush but I'm not sure if I have to keep buying new ones. Are they the same as sponges or can I wash the brush? How long can you use a foundation brush?
You can use your foundation brush indefinitely as long as you take care of it. I'm a make-up artist and most of my brushes are over 10 yrs old or more!

First, purchase a good brush. Don't look for the cheapest or best bargain. For foundations use a Taklon brush if you're using cream or liquid foundations. For mineral make-ups use a kabuki brush. Most mineral foundations recommend a brush for their particular product and I'd opt for that choice if you're given one.

After using your brush each morning clean with a brush cleaner. Simply spray the brush with the cleaner and wipe on a paper towel until it comes free of color. Let it dry on it's side laying flat so that the cleaner doesn't puddle in the ferule of your brush (the metal part). This will keep your bristles clean and strong. Once a week wash all your brushes with baby shampoo. It's gentle and will rid your brush of any color that is rooted deep in the bristles. Again, let dry laying flat.

Here's a great brush cleaner from Cinema Secrets that smells great, cleans exceptionally and has taken care of my brushes for years: http://professionalsecrets.stores.yahoo.鈥?/a>

If you take care of your brushes, they should last years and years.

If you look after your brush by washing it regularly then you will be able to use it for ages!! It does make a difference however if it is a good quality brush. You can tell this by testing if the bristles come out easily, if so, I wouldn't buy it. It is always worth spending a bit more money on them!
wash it regulary and you will increase its life .. but once the hair of the brush starts to fall off, then it means its life span is over, get a new one
You can use it for a while as long as you are keeping it clean. You don't want any buildup or bacteria to form on it. Some places like Sallies Beauty Supply make a spray pump bottle of solution specifically made for cleaning blush brushes. I recommend it.
I think if you wash them once a week you can probably continue to use the brush for a long time. Just use rubbing alcohol and rinse off with some hot water to clean the brush. Then lay the brush to dry but with the brush side down so that water doesn't accumulate in the brush and cause bacteria to grow.
You sure can (should) wash your brush. The life of your brush depends on the quality of the brush. Ususally you pay what you pay for. An affordable but decent qulity brush is Sephora.

Wash the brush, by all means, but don't do it with a soap that will irritate your skin when you use it. After all, you are using it for your skin!
I try to rinse mine once a month to prevent build-up. after you use it wipe it down with a tissue to keep it clean in the meantime. store it in a dry place, preferrebly covered by something so it doesn't gather dust and cause blemishes. you can buy special cleaners for your foundation brush.
i wash my foundation brush everynight becuase i use it every morning if you dont wash it and use it with yesterdays foundation on it, it could make your foundation look streaky and give you skin problems by putting bactria on your face. to wash your brushes put a bit of baby shampoo in some warm water and wash it.
