Why does one not brush their teeth? How do you get a 19 year old to brush their teeth?

I would tell him that you will let it go if he goes to a dentist (and physically go with him), if he never brushes the dentist is likely to find decay and he will have to get unpleasant things like a deep cleaning procedure or fillings or root canals, that should be a sort of self-correcting excercise. Plus, the dentist will council him on the effects of tobacco use and mouth cancers and also give him a screen for those cancers.

I would print out photos of tooth decay, tooth loss, mouth cancers (from tobacco users) and paste them on the refrigerator or in the bathroom where he will see them. Ask him if he truly wants to look like this. Does he have a girlfriend? If he doesn't, that might be why. Tell him that no woman wants to kiss a man who has crap in his mouth or on his teeth. If he's not interested in his personal hygiene, he needs some help, more than you can give.

Sometimes someone can get used to their own breathe smell (even if its bad) and just not care. Maybe even buy an interesting flavored toothpaste? Call your dentist as well maybe they will have a trick
Tell him his teeth will fall out (no joke) becasue it is true!!! Tell him it is going to be really hard to find a girl without teeth! Trust me i know a couple of girls at my school who turned down a guy becasue of his teeth. and i am in highschool and i am taking about 12th graders!
Maybe you could find some pics of people w/bad teeth or do you know anyone that you could point out? But his age the more you push the issue the more he'll probably balk. Good luck.
